How to grow carrots - our best tips

Growing carrots is easy and does not require much space. It can be grown both outdoors, in a pallet collar or in a deeper container on the balcony. The only thing you need to think about is that it wants gaps and mineral-rich soil, preferably a little deeper so that the carrot can grow big. Then the carrot likes sun, so make sure to place it in a place where it gets a lot of sunlight. The carrot comes in a multitude of colors and sizes, there are also varieties that give earlier harvest and later harvest. We usually sow the carrot in batches during the season to be able to harvest for a longer period of time. We're especially partial to black carrots, which turn out to be incredibly pretty and spice up any dish! You can find our favoritehere !

SOW AND HARVEST CARROTS

Plant location: Open field, pallet collar or larger container in a sunny position. The carrot thrives best in sandy, mineral-rich soil that contains finely divided organic matter. Feel free to change the cultivation site from year to year.

WHEN SOWING

Directly sow outdoors when the soil is ready in the spring APRIL-JUNE or in the autumn OCT-NOV for an earlier harvest the following year. For a longer harvest period: Sow both autumn and spring or in batches during the season.

If you don't have sandy soil, mix in some sand and loam. Note! in the case of stiff clay soil, it can do more harm than good to pour in sand. Better to grow on raised beds where you can give the carrot the soil it likes.

Water through the soil before sowing. Make a furrow in the soil about 1-2 cm deep. Poke the seeds about 7 cm apart. If you grow several rows, keep a distance of approx. 30 cm between the rows.

Water carefully from above so that the seeds are not washed away. Keep moist during germination.

DURING THE SEASON/OTHER TIPS

Water regularly throughout the season unless it rains. Better to water more and less often than to dab a little every day.

Thin out so that the carrots don't grow too close, as they will compete with each other. Keep those that have the greatest growth power.

If necessary, protect with fiber cloth against pests.

Feel free to water the fertilizer a few times during the season.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Harvest and enjoy. After about 3 months you can finally harvest. In general, the best harvesting period is for 3 weeks, after which the carrots can crack and the taste becomes worse.
