Grow tomatoes indoors - our best tips
Tomatoes are great to grow indoors, just remember to choose a variety with a compact growth habit that doesn't get too big. You can find our favorite for indoor growing here . The tomato is easy to grow and it makes a beautiful potted plant. Tomatoes require pollination to produce a harvest and you have to take care of that by hand when you grow indoors. This is done by dabbing with a brush or with your finger from flower to flower. About 3-5 months after harvest, the plant will have lots of small red tomatoes that decorate your window like pearls and give a taste of summer. Wonderfully tasty and beautiful!

AT SOWING
Sow your potted tomato indoors from the end of February/beginning of March (when the light returns). Can also be sown all year round with a grow light. Sow the seed in a growing briquette or smaller pot with potting soil. Poke 1-2 seeds about 0.5 cm into the briquette/pot with about 0.5-1 cm between them.
Cover the seeds with a transparent cover with air holes. Tip – use a greenhouse and place a capillary mat in the bottom to provide an even and good water supply. The seeds need heat to germinate. Place on a heated floor, heating mat or in a window above a radiator.
Water regularly with lukewarm water throughout the season – the seeds should always be moist! Uneven watering can result in cracked tomatoes.
Provide light. As soon as the seed has germinated and sprouted, usually after 5-15 days, it needs a lot of light. Remove the cover and place the pot in a bright and cooler place. In a sunny window (about 6 hours of sun/day). You can also grow all year round with a grow light (give light about 13-15 hours/day).
TRANSPLANTATION
Replant when the plant has 4 leaves or is about 5-10 cm tall. Plant 1 plant/pot that measures about 10*10 cm and fill with nutritious potting soil. Place on a plate or in a trough. Water thoroughly with lukewarm water.
FINAL PLANTING
Final planting about 2-3 weeks after transplanting. Fill a pot of about 5-10 liters with nutritious potting soil/vegetable soil and plant the plant. You can advantageously plant the tomato a little deeper as it forms new roots along the entire stem - this way the plant will be compact.
Fertilize with liquid plant nutrients mixed into the water about once a week, then you will get a richer harvest.
Pollination. Help with pollination by dabbing with, for example, your finger, a paintbrush or a top from the center of the flower to the flower. You can also do this by shaking the flowers a little.
HARVEST FESTIVAL
Harvest and enjoy. About 3-5 months after sowing, you can finally harvest your own tomatoes.
CARE
Tomatoes are not difficult to care for but require plenty of water. If the plants dry out, there is a risk that they will not produce a proper harvest, and they will also be less resistant to pests. If you are going away for a week, it is a good idea to set up some type of drip irrigation, or ask a neighbor to water.
