Nigella 'Albion Black Pod'

NIGELLA DAMASCENA

DESCRIPTION
On green lobed stems grows the Virgin in the Green - an easy-to-grow flower with an exotic expression. The lime green pistils are surrounded by white petals that together create a fringed skirt. When the flowering is over, dark seed capsules are formed that are very beautiful to dry. One of our favorites among dried flowers.
Nigella is a hardy annual, meaning a summer flower that can withstand some frost and can therefore start to germinate early in the season without suffering damage. These varieties can be sown in the fall, which saves you both time and space in the spring when everything is much more intensive with the cultivation.

SOWING AND HARVESTING NIGELLA

Growing location : Grown outdoors/in a flowerbed or in a pallet collar in a sunny location (6-7 hours of sun/day).

AT SOWING

Directly sow the nigella in its growing location when the soil has had time to warm up. Prepare the growing location – clear weeds, loosen the soil with a hoe, fill in with a layer of nutritious potting soil, rake it smooth and water the soil thoroughly. (For more information on how to prepare a growing location – see our website). Poke the seed about 0.5 cm into the soil with 20 cm between each seed. Cover the seeds with soil and water gently. The seeds usually germinate 1-3 weeks after sowing.

Mark the sowing with markers. Specify the variety and date.

Water carefully from above so as not to wash away the seeds. Keep moist during germination.

DURING THE SEASON/OTHER TIPS

Water regularly throughout the season if it doesn't rain. It's better to water more and less often than to water a little every day.

Fertilize a few times during the season.

Clear weeds that come up between the plants and remove uninvited guests such as snails and slugs .

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Harvest and enjoy about 2 months after sowing and you can then enjoy showy bouquets right up until the first frost.
