SOWING AND HARVESTING CARROTS

Growing location : Outdoor or in a pallet collar in a sunny position. Carrots thrive best in sandy, mineral-rich soil that contains finely divided organic material. Feel free to change the growing location from year to year.

AT SOWING

Direct sow outdoors when the soil warms up in the spring APRIL-JUNE or in the fall OCT-NOV for an earlier harvest the following year. For a longer harvest period: Sow both fall and spring or in batches during the season.

If you don't have sandy soil, mix in some sand and compost. Note: In stiff clay soil, adding sand can do more harm than good. In that case, it's better to grow carrots in raised beds where you can give the carrot the soil it likes.

Water the soil thoroughly before sowing. Make a furrow in the soil about 1-2 cm deep. Place the seeds about 7 cm apart. If you are growing several rows, keep a distance of about 30 cm between the rows.

Mark the sowing with markers. Specify the variety and date.

Water carefully from above so as not to wash away the seeds. Keep moist during germination.

DURING THE SEASON/OTHER TIPS

Water regularly throughout the season if it doesn't rain. It's better to water more and less often than to water a little every day.

If necessary, protect with non-woven fabric against insect pests.

It is advisable to fertilize a few times during the season.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Harvest and enjoy. After about 4 months you can finally harvest. Generally the best harvesting period is within 3 weeks, after that the carrots can crack and the taste will be worse.
