SOWING AND HARVESTING CULTIVATED TOMATOES
AT SOWING
Sow indoors from the end of February/beginning of March (when the light returns). For a long harvest period: Sow in batches until mid-August. Can also be sown all year round with a grow lamp. Place the briquette in lukewarm water and let it swell. Place on a dish or growing tray. Poke the seeds about 0.5 cm into the growing briquette. It can also be sown in a smaller pot filled with seeding soil.
Mark Sowing with markers. Specify variety and date.
Cover Cover the seed with a transparent cover with air holes (e.g. plastic film, a recycled plastic bag or a plastic lid with air holes). Tip – use a greenhouse and place a capillary mat in the bottom to provide an even and good water supply. The seeds need heat to germinate. Place on a heated floor, heating mat or in a window above a radiator.
Water regularly with lukewarm water throughout the season – the seeds should always be moist! Uneven irrigation can result in cracked tomatoes.
1-2 WEEKS AFTER SOWING
Give light. As soon as the seed has germinated and sprouted, usually after 5-15 days, it needs a lot of light. Remove the cover and place the pot in a bright and cooler place. In a sunny window (about 6 hours of sun/day). Grow all year round with a grow light (about 13-15 hours of light/day).
TRANSPLANTATION
Replant when the plant has 4 leaves or is about 5-10 cm tall. Plant it in a pot measuring about 10*10 cm and fill it with nutritious potting soil. Place on a plate or in a trough. Water thoroughly with lukewarm water.
FINAL PLANTING
Final planting about 2-3 weeks after transplanting. Fill a pot of about 5-10 liters with nutritious potting soil/vegetable soil and plant the plant. It is advisable to plant the tomato a little deeper as it forms new roots along the entire stem - this will make the plant compact.
Nutrient water with liquid plant nutrients mixed into the water about once a week.
Pollination. Help with pollination by dabbing with, for example, your finger, a paintbrush or a top from the center of the flower to the flower. You can also do this by shaking the flowers a little.
HARVEST FESTIVAL
Harvest and enjoy. About 3-5 months after sowing, you can finally harvest your own tomatoes.
