CUCUMIS SATIVUS L.
One of the easiest and most rewarding crops to grow! A showy climbing plant with extremely beautiful leaves that frame the entire window sill like a curtain. Provides lots of sweet little cucumbers to harvest and slice up for your breakfast sandwich. It doesn't get much more locally grown than that!

SOWING AND HARVESTING POTTED CUCUMBERS
AT SOWING
Sow the cucumber curtain indoors from the end of February/beginning of March (when the light returns). Can also be sown all year round. All you need is a window with plenty of light - natural or with a grow lamp. Place the briquette in lukewarm water and let it swell. Place on a dish or growing tray. Stick a seed about 1-2 cm into the growing briquette and cover with the briquette's coconut fibers. One seed per briquette.
Mark Sowing with markers. Specify variety and date.
Cover Cover the seed with a transparent cover with air holes (e.g. plastic film, a recycled plastic bag or a plastic lid with air holes). Tip – use a greenhouse and place a capillary mat in the bottom to provide an even and good water supply. The seeds need heat to germinate. Place on a heated floor, heating mat or in a window above a radiator.
Water regularly with lukewarm water – the seed should always be moist!
1-2 WEEKS AFTER SOWING
Give light. As soon as the seed has germinated and sprouted, usually after 5-15 days, it needs a lot of light. Remove the cover and place the pot in a bright and cooler place. In a sunny window (about 6 hours of sun/day). Grow all year round with a grow light (about 13-15 hours of light/day).
TRANSPLANTATION/FINAL PLANTING
Replant When the plant has about 4-6 leaves, it needs more space to grow. Fill a pot that holds about 5-10 liters with nutritious potting soil/vegetable soil. If necessary, fill it with some Leca balls. Plant the entire plant, including the briquette, at the same depth as the plant was previously. Note: Do not plant too deep, the cucumber does not like that. Water thoroughly with lukewarm water and continue to keep the soil moist throughout the season.
Nutrient water with liquid plant nutrient mixed into the water about once a week after the plant starts to flower.
FRAME
Tie the cucumber curtain up with a string that you attach to a nail/pinch above the window or to the curtain rod. Wind the plant around the string as it grows.
HARVEST FESTIVAL
Harvest and enjoy. About 2 ½- 3 1/2 months after sowing, you can finally start harvesting your own little cucumbers in your window for a long period!
