Grow your own eucalyptus - here's how
There is something very exotic about growing your own eucalyptus. That something that grows and thrives in Australia on the other side of the world can actually be grown in our climate. The seeds take a long time to germinate and the young plant initially grows quite slowly. But then it suddenly picks up speed and by the end of the season you have a beautifully silvery and decorative plant. In addition to being incredibly pretty - it smells so good! After the season is over, the eucalyptus goes to overwinter in a bright and frost-free place. The plant will then grow bigger and more lush with each passing year if you take care of it. Overall, the eucalyptus is a fun and exciting growing challenge! Are you interested?
Grow eucalyptus - this is how you do it!
Growing location : Grown outdoors/in a flowerbed, in a pallet collar or larger pot on the balcony in a sunny position (6-7h sun/day)-partially shaded position (3-5h sun/day).
AT SOWING
Sow the eucalyptus indoors in January-March depending on how early flowering you want. Stick a seed about 0.2 cm into a pot with seeding soil or in a growing briquette.
Cover the seeds with transparent covering with air holes. Place on a heating floor or heating mat for extra fast germination.
Water regularly - never let the seeds dry out!
1-3 WEEKS AFTER SOWING
Provide light . When the seed germinates, usually after 7-21 days, it needs light. Remove the plastic and place the seed in a brighter and cooler location.
RETRAINING
Repot the plant when it has 4 leaves, to give it more space. Plant it in a pot measuring approximately 10x10 cm, which is filled with nutritious potting soil. Plant at the same depth as the plant was previously. Water with lukewarm water. Here the plants are then allowed to grow before it is time to plant out.
FINAL PLANTING
Harden off the plant when the risk of frost is over, to accustom it to the outdoor environment. Start with 1 hour/day and gradually increase the time outside. Avoid direct sunlight which is too strong for the tender leaves. After a week or so it is ready for a permanent life outdoors.
Plant the plant in its growing location, for example in a flowerbed or pallet collar, with 30 cm between each plant and 50 cm between each row. Plant in well-fertilized soil. The eucalyptus can also be planted in a larger pot filled with nutrient-rich soil. Fertilize a few times during the season.
WINTER STORAGE
The eucalyptus can be overwintered frost-free in a cold storage room. It is important that there is daylight in the space, otherwise light must be supplied using a grow light. Make sure to water it a little from time to time so that the plant does not dry out during the winter.

Eucalyptus 'Baby Blue' has small round leaves in a silvery green tone that grow on sturdy stems and spread a lovely aromatic scent. It is beautiful to grow in a pot where it grows up as a small bushy tree. It is also very pretty as a filler plant in bouquets and is almost as nice dried as fresh. A very worth growing variety that we give five stars!
