Manure

Even if you have nutrient-rich planting soil, this nutrient is usually not enough during the growing season. Substances such as nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus are important substances when you grow. Here we describe a few different types of fertilizer and their different advantages.

Pelleted fertilizer

Pelleted fertilizer is simple and easy to both buy and fertilize with. You can buy e.g. pelleted vegetable or chicken manure. It does not give the soil soil or structure like stable manure does. Therefore, please improve the soil with organic material when using pelleted fertilizer, e.g. organic material such as compost, bark mulch or biochar. Dosed according to information on packaging.

For indoor cultivation, we usually use pelleted green manure, which smells less than chicken manure.

Stable manure

You can also fertilize with well manure from e.g. horse or cow. The advantage of well manure is that it also adds structure and soil to the soil. Stable manure can sometimes be picked up or bought at the stable, but it is important that it is well so that it is not too strong. Horse manure needs to sit for about half a year so it becomes rotten before you can use it. If you collect from a stable and are going to dig yourself, dig deep down. That's where all the goodies are. Cow manure can also be bought in bags and dosed according to the instructions on the bag. For well manure from stables, 1-3 liters/m2 is usually a good guideline. Amount depends on how much litter there is in the manure and how well it is drilled. The more litter, the weaker the fertilizer.

Fresh chicken manure is very strong so you need to compost it before using it.

Fertilizer water

Most annual crops do well to be fertilized during the season. Those who do not need nutrition are e.g. peas and legumes that fix nitrogen from the air all by themselves. Under each crop we have mentioned if they do not need that much nutrition.

Buy liquid plant nutrition that you dilute in water or make your own with pelleted chicken manure or nettles. More information and recipes can be found here . For fertilizer water indoors, we recommend purchased liquid plant nutrition, which smells the least and is therefore suitable indoors.

FERTILIZER WATER RECIPE

Fertilizer water on chicken manure:

Throw down 2-3 handfuls of pelleted chicken manure in a 10 liter watering can filled with water. Let stand for at least a day. Stir well and dilute about 1 part with 9 parts water.

Fertilizer water on nettles:

1 kg of nettles is mixed with approx. 10 liters of water. Leave for at least a week. Strain off the plant parts and dilute about 1 part with 8 parts water. Note! this smells like a vase of rotten cut flowers.

Golden water:

1 part urine is mixed with 9 parts water. Water directly. Fertilizer water only on the soil and not on edible plant parts and during early and high summer. A few weeks before it's time to harvest, you can suggest watering the fertilizer with something else.

Fertilizer water on leachate from bokashi:

1 part leachate is mixed with 100 parts water, i.e. 1 tablespoon per liter of water.
